So, You’re Looking to Buy a Safe?

So, You’re Looking to Buy a Safe?

There’s a lot to consider beyond price.

What do you want to store in the safe?

Jewelry, firearms, paperwork, photos, and heirlooms are all common answers- often a variety of different things. The kind of items you’d like to secure determines the type of safe you should look for. Another thing to consider is how much space is required to fit everything inside. Our general rule of thumb is to estimate how much space you think you’ll need, then double it. You’ll always find something else you’d like to keep in it!

What kind of protection do you expect?

Do you need fire protection, theft protection, or both? Many safes are specialized for either fire or theft protection. There are safes which offer both, though their price reflects the added quality. You also have to assess the threat level, as there are different grades of fire and theft resistance.

Which lock option best suits your needs?

Tactile keypad locks offer quick, convenient access without needing to see the keypad very well (many also light up), but they do require you to stay on top of battery changes. Traditional dial locks offer years of reliable service without worrying about batteries but can be challenging to dial open in poor sight conditions.

These questions are just the basics of what you should consider when looking to purchase a safe for your home or business. Quality safes are expensive, so we recommend doing some research before shopping. Our safe technician can offer expert advice through your decision-making process. Of course, we also sell safes and can manage coordinating your shopping, delivery, and installation.
